Pre-operative inguinal hernia indication and risk discussion

The patient is indicated for repair to prevent enlargement of the hernia, reduce symptoms, and prevent future incarceration risk. The risks are damage to nearby structures such as the blood supply to the testicle, nerves to the groin leading to chronic pain, hernia recurrence, soft tissue infection, bleeding, mesh infection and general anesthesia risk. After discussion of these risks and benefits he has elected to proceed with surgery.
